Announce PartsPart 1Part 2Part 3...

Definition

A classical rhetorical structure that announces the division of a topic into parts at the outset, then treats each part in sequence. The announcement creates a contract with the audience about what will follow.

Examples

Example 1

"There are three reasons this policy will fail: cost, feasibility, and public support. Let me address each in turn." Then three sections follow.

Classical rhetorical partition — the announcement creates a contract with the audience

Example 2

"This essay will examine the crisis from three angles: historical, economic, and moral. Only by seeing all three can we understand why the status quo persists."

Academic essay — the partitio signals thoroughness and gives the reader a map

Example 3

"Our strategy rests on three pillars: product innovation, market expansion, and operational efficiency. Let me report on each."

Business communication — partitio manages expectations and demonstrates control

AI Detection Note

Extremely common AI pattern. LLMs love to announce 'there are N key aspects' or 'let's examine X from three angles' — the explicit partitio announcement followed by numbered sections is a strong AI signature.
