Establishing Authority
Pattern
Evidence/expertise signals + confident assertion — credibility-building language
Definition
Using language to position the speaker as knowledgeable, credible, or trustworthy — through expertise signals, evidence citation, confident assertion, or institutional voice.
Examples
Example 1
'Research consistently demonstrates that...' — 'research' and 'consistently' work together to establish that the claim is backed by evidence and is not controversial.
AI Detection Note
AI authority-establishing phrases tend to be generic ('research shows', 'experts agree', 'studies suggest') without citing specific sources. Human authority-building more often references specific evidence, named experts, or personal experience.
