Expolitio
Pattern
Idea→restatement→restatement — same point refined
Definition
Restating the same idea in different words or from different angles, elaborating and refining with each pass.
Examples
Example 1
The project failed. It collapsed. It fell apart at every seam, undone by its own contradictions.
Each restatement adds a slightly different shade — failure, structural collapse, self-destruction
Example 2
Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
Abraham Lincoln, Gettysburg Address
Lincoln restates the same democratic principle three ways — origin, agency, and purpose
Example 3
She was exhausted — drained, spent, utterly emptied of every last reserve of strength.
The idea of exhaustion is revisited through synonyms that intensify the original claim
AI Detection Note
AI sometimes produces expolitio unintentionally — restating the same idea in different words as padding rather than as deliberate rhetorical intensification. Unintentional repetitiveness is a common AI tell.
